Major updates coming with PrestaShop 1.7

If the changes from PrestaShop version 1.6 to 1.7 can be summed up in one word, it would be: Simplify! WPrestashop develpment team took a look at the current software with over 600 features and asked themselves, “How can we make our software even better? Our answer? Make it easier to use.”

With this goal in mind, they made these 4 major changes coming with the next version:

1. Classic Template

Some features that were popular when 1.6 released  are no longer relevant. It is why PS dev team refreshed the default template for 1.7 with the goal of making sure that all online shops running on the new Classic theme follow current ecommerce best practices. Here is what you can look forward to:

  • Mobile responsive design
  • Improved user (or shopper) experience
  • Designed to be generic enough for any industry
  • Yet, easily customized to your individual brand

2. PrestaShop 1.7 Checkout

In the checkout page, PS team decided to move away from the 5-page checkout and towards a one-page checkout (OPC). They  have also added a side panel that displays a cart summary, and removed any extraneous information that might distract the customer. Now, from any stage of the checkout process, customers know exactly how much they are spending and where that amount is going without clicking away from the page.

3. PrestaShop 1.7 Back Office

They have simplified PrestaShop not just in the front office but also in the back. Their challenge? Let customers create a product in as few clicks and pages as possible. Started with 12 tabs and after some (major) rework, they have cut it down to just 6 tabs. But that is not all, they have organized the fields so most merchants can set up their products on just the main tab. No more having to jump from tab to tab to fill out basic information.

4. PrestaShop 1.7 Modules Page

Each shop can be customized and completely personalized with modules. PS team have made this page easier to navigate by grouping modules into 3 categories: Module Suggestions, Installed Modules, and Modules that need your attention. And that is just to start. New module categories introduced, a better algorithm for sorting and most importantly, more module information.
